AirAsia Berhad is the operating company for AirAsia, a short-haul discount airline based in Malaysia. Together with its minority-owned affiliates, Indonesia AirAsia and Thai AirAsia, the company carried approximately 18 million passengers in 2011. The airlines operate a fleet of 97 aircraft that travel to 65 destinations, offering more than 3,500 flights per week. Costs are kept low by selling paperless tickets over the Internet, streamlining operations, using a point-to-point network, keeping luxury travel services to a minimum and fast aircraft turnaround. Through wholly-owned subsidiary AirAsia Go Holiday Sdn Bhd, the carrier offers AirAsiaGo, an online program in which customers may book holiday packages and special promotions. The company’s other subsidiaries include AirAsia Investment, Ltd., an investment holding company that holds the firm’s minority interests in PT Indonesia AirAsia and Thai AirAsia Co. Ltd.; and AirAsia Mauritius, Ltd., which provides aircraft leasing facilities.
