Galpin Motors, Inc. operates nine car dealerships and an integrated series of web sites, selling new and used vehicles in California. Although founded by Frank Galpin in 1946, the company has been owned and operated by the Boeckmann family since the 1960s. The company sells nine main new vehicle makes, Ford, Jaguar, Volvo, Lincoln, Honda, Mazda, Mercury, Saturn and Aston Martin, as well as additional used makes as they are acquired. Customers can also select from a diverse range of high-performance engine options ranging from 500 horse power Ford Racingcrate engines to Roush engines. Galpin's dealerships often have unusual features, such as exhibits, circuses and charity ceremonies. For example, the Galpin Mazda of Santa Clarita location is home to an in-showroom Starbucks Coffee franchise, while its flagship North Hills dealership features an in-house eatery called the Horseless Carriage Restaurant. The Galpin web site offers customers online specials, vehicle inventory search, financing applications, parts ordering and service scheduling. Besides selling cars, Galpin has three vehicle rental facilities, including a Hollywood location with over 1,000 vehicles that it rents to studios for movie production. Additionally, Galpin customizes vehicles in a process it calls Galpinizing, offering distinctive treatments like the Tailgate Party Truck, featuring a built-in barbecue grill, blender, DVD/TV combo and refrigerated beer kegs. Largely in charge of this customization work is Galpin Auto Sports (G.A.S.), the official shop of MTV’s Pimp My Ride. The firm also sells rings and G.A.S.-branded merchandise, mainly tee-shirts and hats, through Shopgalpinautosports.com. Galpin provides its employees benefits including a vehicle purchase plan.
